Special Requests:
Used Truck for Maintenance - Need 1
[Up to You!]-We have a special request from our Facilities Manager...a '92 or newer Chevy or GMC 4-Wheel Drive 3/4 Ton Truck in good running condition. It needs to be a long wheel base. Someone has offered to donate a service bed, if we have a truck for it. This would give us another service truck for the Sanctuary. If you have a vehicle that meets this description and would be interested in donating it to the Sanctuary, please contact Lorenda at (931) 796-6500 ext. 5# or by email at lorenda@elephants.com It would be helpful if you have a photo to email as we want to make sure it is compatible with the service bed.

Phone Handset for Ellen - Need 2 - UNDERWRITTEN!!!
[$229.99 Ea]-OH NO! Ellen's phone is on a downward spiral! The reception is cutting in and out and it has so much static that our members can hardly hear her when placing merchandise orders. The problem is progressing rather quickly and we have another phone that may be going the way of Ellen's - we could really use two, please!! http://www.101phones.com/details/2000-232/Panasonic-2-4-GHz-Extra-Handsets-KX-TGA400.html UPDATE: WE HAVE PURCHASED BOTH PHONES. WE NEED HELP WITH UNDERWRITING, PLEASE.

One phone has been underwritten as well as part of the second one. Balance remaining is $149.98. $150.00 underwritten February 2010! Thank you!

Wood Shavings - Continual Need
[$7.00 Bag]-We have had great difficultly finding a supplier for bulk shavings that meet our requirements. We have located a company that provides the perfect shavings in bags and you can underwrite one or more bags for $7 per bag! If you would like to specify an elephant for your underwriting gift, please add their name next to the amount. As wearable art, elephant enrichment, and soft material for tired feet, wood shavings are a continual need.

$70.00 underwritten February 2010.

General Facility Needs:
Generators Maintenance Service - Need 3
[$1,100.00 ]-Here is another opportunity to help support the elephants, ensuring their safety and comfort. The Sanctuary has recently signed a maintenance agreement to service and inspect the main generators every 6 months. Although they have been short lived, power interruptions do occur. $1100 per barn is a minimal expense compared to peace of mind that comes with well oiled equipment. When it comes to the comfort of the elephants redundancy is good. All of our barns have two power sources, two water sources and two different heat sources. It’s all about keeping the Girls safe and warm.

Bar and Chain Oil - Need 4
[$10.48 Ea.]-Our chainsaws are used frequently to trim areas around the habitat, cut browse for the Girls and various other projects. With that said, we need bar and chain oil to keep our saws in operation! These are one gallon containers.

Camcorder - Need 1
[$499.99]-We are looking to get a new camcorder. Not only has our old one seen better days, but we would also like to improve on our videos. With the camera we are using now (it takes little tapes), anything we want on-line has to be sent away to be put into a usable format and then edited. With this new camera we would be able to directly download video and it would enable us to put up short clips, on-line, more easily and frequently. This is also an HD camera, which would allow us better quality footage. It will not only show better on the videos of the girls that people watch at home on their HD TVs (which many people seem to have nowadays), but it will be more “true to life” on the larger screens in our Education Gallery when completed.

Seat Covers for 4-Wheelers - Need 4
[$49.95 Ea.]-Our 4-wheelers certainly go through a lot of abuse. They are our main lifeline between us and the girls in the habitat. The seats are definitely no exception. As many people know, dogs accompany us when we go to feed many times. Whether it’s a Maggie, or a Virgil, or one of the other dogs at Africa or Asia that like riding in style - their nails do a number on the seats. They also crack on their own from being in the sun and then being exposed to heat and cold. And on occasion, an elephant takes them for a taste. Once there is a small hole, it spreads quite rapidly, leaving the caregivers sitting on exposed foam (which retains water very well). We would like to get some of these covers to be able to fix those seats that have gotten pretty bad.

Eye Wash Solution Refills - Need 12 - UNDERWRITTEN!!!
[$17.25 Ea.]-We were running low on refills for our eye wash stations for the barns and maintenance shop so we ordered 12 bottles to replenish our supply. Should the need arise, we want to have this available for our staff. We could use some help with underwriting, please.

Balance remaining of $116.00 underwritten January 2010. Thank you!!

Latex Gloves - Need 1 case of Each - UNDERWRITTEN!!!
[$49.50 Ca.]-We are out of the medium and large sizes and only have six boxes of small. These gloves are sold by the case. We could use one case of each size, please. UPDATE: We have purchased these gloves and need help with underwriting, please.

Balance remaining of $69.00 underwritten January 2010. Thank you!

Boomer Ball - Need 5
[$200.00 Ea]-If you have been watching the elecam lately you have seen Minnie having a blast with her boomer ball. She kicks and runs after it, sits on it and even tries to squish it by laying down on it. But the mighty boomer ball takes the thrashing and comes bouncing back. This elephant size ball brings Minnie hours of entertainment. We have a feeling the other girls might like to have a boomer ball of their own.

We only need two more!

New Motor for Pressure Washer - Need 1 - UNDERWRITTEN!!!
[$980.00]-We have purchased a new motor for one of our old pressure washers. We use pressure washers extensively in the winter and always like to have one working back up. We could use help with underwriting, please!!

One has been donated. We need two more. $34.00 underwritten January 2010. We're all set!

Dual Hose Connector - Need 20
[$7.99 Ea.]-These hose connectors have cut off valves and will allow us to connect two hoses to the same faucet.

1" x 10" Ratchet Strap w/J Hook & D Ring - Need 6 - UNDERWRITTEN!!!
[$7.29 Ea.]-Q Barn needs these tie down straps to hold things down when transporting on vehicles and/or trailers. The 1" straps are also great for things like holding the water tank on the watering trailer.

All six donated January 2010!!

Orange Safety Fence - Need 10 Rolls
[$24.98 Rl.]-This orange safety fence is an economical fence with multiple uses...perfect to use when a visual barrier is needed while construction or maintenance projects are being done. We have purchased this item and need help with underwriting, please.

The remaining balance needed is now $49.92.

Bug Repellent Spray, 32 oz. - Need 10
[$48.99 Ea.]-The name says it all...it is a blend of natural oils used to repell those pesky insects. Q Barn has requested 10 of these, please.

We have received four...six more to go!

Lubricant Spray - Need 5 - UNDERWRITTEN!!!
[$5.49 Ea.]-Q Barn needs this multi-purpose lubricant spray to keep things greased and in good working order around the barn.

$27.50 underwritten January 2010. $20.00 underwritten January 2010.

Portable Generator - Need 2
[$1,000 Ea.]-We have purchased two portable generators for wells located in remote areas of the habitat. We could use some help with underwriting, please.

Gate Modifications for Q Barn - Need 2
[$2,800 Ea.]-We are currently modifying two gates at the Quarantine Barn to be fully automated...new motors, gear reducers, steel, casters, solenoids, controllers and labor will equal $2,800.00 per gate.

$690.00 underwritten January 2010. This completes the amount needed for one of the gates...one more to go!

Stihl KM90R Trimmer - Need 1
[$299.95]-We have lots of trimming to do around the Q Barn and this trimmer is just what we need to get the job done! With this model, we can use up to 13 different attachments!! (The pole pruner attachment that we need is listed separately on the wish list.)

Pro-Mix 2-Cycle Engine Oil - Need 20
[$1.99 Ea.]-We use this engine oil to mix in with gasoline. This mixture fuels some of our equipment like the weed eaters and chainsaws. Sometimes when we find fallen trees we use the chainsaws to cut off branches for the Girls.

Loppers, 1.625" Capacity - Need 3 - UNDERWRITTEN!!!
[$21.98 Ea.]-Q Barn and Africa are in need of some more of the smaller loppers. These are great for trimming smaller branches and cutting browse for the Girls.

We have received one, two more to go! Two donated February 2010. We're all set!

Welding Blanket - Need 4
[$217.00 Ea]-We have ordered four welding blankets to protect the rubber floor system from molten steel while we work on welding projects inside the barns. We could use some underwriting help, please.

One has been underwritten; three more to go! $99.21 has been underwritten toward the second blanket January 2010.

(Price includes shipping.) You can view this product at the following link: http://fenceslat.com/proddetail.php?prod=wingslat&cat=2

150 Ft. Simpson Monster Hose, 4000 PSI Pressure Washer Hose - Need 4
[$199.99 Ea]-We have found these pressure washer hoses in 150 ft. lengths which would be beneficial in reaching greater distances when cleaning. Our African girls thought the hose their caregiver was using looked fun to play with, resulting in the need for a new one! http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200344811_200344811?cm_sp=Customer%20driven-_-Recently%20Viewed-_-Product%20Page

[$36.09 Ea.]-We needed to do some renovations to some of our barn gates. They needed new tires so we purchased them and could use help with underwriting, please. http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200331225_200331225&issearch=1338

Wall Mounted Hose Reel - Need 4
[$119.99 Ea]-With all the hoses we have around the Sanctuary, we need some hose reels! Q Barn is needing four reels to replace the plastic ones that simply do not hold up. These reels will make it easier for the caregivers to wind and unwind the hoses. We could use four of these, please!

Tractor Supply Co. Gift Cards
[Up To You!]-Tractor Supply Co. has come to town!!! We are delighted that TSC has opened a branch right here in Hohenwald. Snap-Blade Knife H-273 - Need 12 - UNDERWRITTEN!!!
[$4.75 Each]-Automatic locking, retractable safety blade. Includes 24 snap-off blades - 3 sheets of 8. These box cutter knives come in handy around the barns. Now that the ladies are frequenting the barns more, these are a must. We keep one near every hay cart inside, so we can easily open up a bale and feed our ladies without them having to wait until we locate one. At the Asian barn, we’re down to just a couple and could use a restock. This is an urgent need.

Two have been underwritten. Ten donated January 2010. Twelve donated February 2010. Twelve donated February 2010. Another twelve donated February 2010. We're all set!!

Mower, Cub Cadet Commercial Riding - Need 1 - URGENT NEED!!
[$8500]-Our mower is over 10 years old and quickly becoming a money pit and a colossal waste of time. For every hour of mowing we have an hour of repair. It is time to replace and upgrade to a more durable model!! This one should do the job nicely! We have provided a link for your underwriting pleasure. You may view this mower at the following link: http://www.cubcadet.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10051_14101_1047469_33803_-1_33803_43279

11/09/09 Update: Balance needed is $7,329.00.

Bungee Cords, 40" with Carabiners - Need 20 - UNDERWRITTEN!!!
[$5.99 Ea.]-It’s amazing, the little things that make an elephant caregiver happy. We use bungee cords on the four wheelers to keep the ladies’ hay on the back, and their diets on the front. Unfortunately, because of the way the hooks are made, they slip off here and there. This either leads to an attack bungee cord hurling itself at you, someone’s diet sliding off the front of the four wheeler (oddly enough, usually Shirley’s), or the hay falling off the back – which means the caregiver is greeted with looks of “is that all the hay you brought us?”. These cords will prevent this. They have carabiners on the end that we will be able to clip onto our racks with no worries about slipping off. Absolutely wonderful...both the caregiver and the elephants at the NAB would appreciate these very much!!

All 20 underwritten January 2010!!

Waterers, Automatic - 3 for New Asia - 2 for Africa and 2 for Q - Total 7
[$2450.00 ea]-The Girls are ready for 7 new automatic waterers in their favorite places in the habitat. The wells are in, so now Scott will be busy installing 3 waterers for Asia, 2 for the African girls and 2 in Divaland. It is a thirsty order, and thanks to the rising cost of steel, these custom designed waterers will cost $2450 each. Please help us by underwriting the cost and move us closer to our goal of getting the Girls their long-awaited fresh water fountains.
'
Elephants like Minnie have grown accustomed to the Automatic Waterers inside the barns. The time has come to add them outside, too!

$40.00 underwritten February. 02/01/10 Update: This brings the balance needed on the third waterer down to $1,513.05.

Wal-Mart Gift Card
[Up to You!]-We have a Wal-Mart in Hohenwald and we find we are there constantly picking up not only little odds and ends, but some major items as well! Gift cards are a great help.

Slime Tire Sealant - Need 1
[$44.99 Ea.]-With all the flats we get around here, 4 wheeler, water and dump trailer, we like to repair the ones we can. This quick fix works great on smaller holes, and extends the life of our tires. We are down to our last little bit and could use another bottle.

Gatorade - CONTINUAL NEED!!
[$1.50 Ea.]-The weather has turned hot and our Caregivers are in need of Gatorade! This was very popular with the staff (and a couple of Girls who seemed intrested in, um, borrowing a sip or two) last year so we wanted to get going on it right away. The powdered packets store well and do not take up too much room, but will make a huge difference in the well being of our caregivers. A variety of flavors will assure everyone is happy as each Caregiver seems to have their own favorite. Price drops to $1.25 each when purchasing 20 or more.

21 packs donated January 2010.

Neverkink Marine Hose - Need 10
[$31.99 Each]-We are in need of drinking hoses. These hoses are FDA approved drinking hoses that will provide the girls with fresh, clean drinking water whenever they want it.

7 have been donated...we only need 3 more!

Rakes, Steel Leaf - Need 10
[$22.99 Ea.]-We use these rakes throughout the day, every day, to keep the habitat and barns looking neat and tidy for our girls, who of course are the ones who cause it to be less than neat and tidy! These are by far the best rakes for the job, and are very difficult to locate. And even though they are the very best, they still wear out because they are in constant use! The Girls are spending more time in the barns now so we really need to restock our supply.

Trash Bags, 50 Bags/Carton
[$30.00/Ctn]-Our trash is overflowing because the bags are too small for the trash cans! This 40-45 gallon size should be just about right. ($28 each for 6+ cartons)

4-Wheeler - Need 1
[$7,350.00]-We are in need of a new 4-Wheeler at the Q Barn to accommodate caregivers going in several different directions at the same time. As a result of warmer weather, more outside cleaning is needed. http://www.hondaofcoolsprings.com/new_vehicle_detail.asp?sid=03790247X2K13K2009J1I01I15JPMQ1468R0&veh=86977&CatDesc=ATVs&ModelYear=2009 04/30/09 UPDATE: We have purchased this much needed ATV, and all donations toward this expense are greatly appreciated!!

[$73.12 Ca.]-These heavy duty shop towels are much more absorbent than normal towels and last much longer. Q Barn was getting really low, so we purchased two cases and could use some help with underwriting, please. http://www.wescotools.com/p-2259-shop-towels-on-a-roll-case-qty-30-75130-by-kimberly-clark.aspx

Seventh Generation Laundry Powder - Continual Need
[$13.63 Bx.]-It's a dirty business keeping the barns clean. We use this eco-friendly detergent at all the barns for washing towels, cleaning rags, mops, and, of course, dog and cat beds. Seventh Generation is a progressive company with a strong environmental ethic.

Weed Eater
[$350.00]-We have worn out another weed eater, so it is time for a new one. Scott picked one up locally, as our need was great, and we could sure use some underwriting help. Thank you.

DeWALT 7.2V to 18V Dual Port 1 Hour Fast Charger - Need 5
[$79.99 Ea.]-This battery charger has dual ports for charging two batteries at the same time. It does the job in 1 hour or less thus minimizing down time. (Scroll down the page to product number DW9216.)

Kroger Gift Card
[Up to You!]-Every week we buy several different food supplies from Kroger Food market. We use gallons of apple cider vinegar for foot soaks and jars of peanut butter to make the elephant’s daily mixture of supplements tasty. If you would like to help underwrite any of these items for the elephants you can do so by purchasing a Kroger gift card on line; the easy way to make sure the girls feet and tummies feel good! Thanks for your support. http://www.kroger.com/gifts.htm

Onr $40.00 card donated January 2010.

Female Quick Connects for Pressure Hoses - Need 10 - UNDERWRITTEN!!!
[$6.77 Ea.]-We are out of these quick connects for our pressure washer hoses at Asia, and just had to pull one off our spare hose. We pressure wash the barn daily, and each time we remove the hoses so they can be put away properly. This wears down the o-ring inside, which causes it to leak, which results in caregivers getting a slight shower, never mind wasting water. We could use a few, so we can make it through the rest of the winter.

All ten donated January 2010!

Lowes Gift Cards
[Up to You]-Lowes gift cards of any denomination are always useful to purchase miscellaneous hardware and tools.

Dietary Supplements and Supplies:
Schizandra Berry, 1/4 lb. Powder - Ongoing Need
[$36.82]-Our sweet Winkie receives this Chinese herb derived from berries. It is classified as an “adaptogen”, which functions by helping your body regain balance and redirect energy where you need it - both on a physical and emotional plain. Winkie has been lighter and more open consistently now, avoiding her short periods of somewhat closing up emotionally. She has been on this herb for almost a year now, and we would like to think, along with other things, that it is giving her a little added support. She is on her last bottle and we would like to restock. When ordering, we need this herb in the 1/4 lb. powder.

Nearly every system in the body can benefit from flax seed's natural properties, including the cardiovascular system, immune system, circulatory system, reproductive system, nervous system, as well as joints. This is another way we can try to assist our ladies health and recovery...all that, and they like the taste!

Recently it has been marketed in several dog and horse supplements and this product is the most complete that we have found. Cosequin Equine Powder - Pkg. 1400 gram - URGENT NEED!!!
[$109.06 Ea]-It is true that preventative medicine can go a long way to insuring our girls long term wellness. That is why all of our elephants receive Cosequin daily. Recent studies indicate that joint deterioration, as well as the accompanied debilitating pain and inflammation, can be prevented if addressed early. By supplementing the elephants with Cosequin before they show signs of a problem we can help to increase their chances of not developing the condition. As the elephants age, their risk of joint inflammation and deterioration increases. By providing Cosequin now, their joints have a better chance of staying healthy. This preventive measure just might stop the onset of the crippling inflammation and joint deterioration that plagues so many elephants kept in captivity. Call Nutramax Labs at 1-800-925-5187, or underwrite this product using the above link.
